The recently formed Columbiettes Auxiliary 14765, associated with the Indian Land Knights of Columbus Council, has been very active since their installation in March.
The woman’s group, led by President Judy Koch, has held monthly meetings to get organized into various action committees, such as membership, audit, speakers, fundraising and others.
Charitable outreach to the needs of Lancaster County is something they all agree upon as a priority.
As the weather heated up, one of their first ideas the Columbiettes discussed was to donate electric fans to those without air conditioning. Member Judy Gustaferro initiated this effort to find out where the need was and then received approval to purchase and deliver 10 fans to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Lancaster. Father Javier Heredia was very thankful for the donation and has distributed the fans to the families most in need.
In addition to donating material goods, the Columbiettes also made a monetary contribution to help support a local Lancaster County agricultural charity. Plans are still being developed to do more fundraising and community outreach.
The Columbiettes are a service organization of Catholic women, age 18 and over, who assist and support the Knights of Columbus councils with which they are affiliated. However, they continue to be a separately incorporated national organization with its own set of officers, goals and ideas, as well as its own charitable organizations.
