Pageland’s downtown clock is finally on time.
The clock, at the corner of McGregor at Maple streets, finally has all four faces showing the correct time.
It hasn’t been that way for years. When the clock stopped, you had your choice of time: 6:43, 1:49, and 2:34.
Now all four, newly installed faces, have the same time.
The work is the result of a community fund-raising drive coordinated by the Pageland Chamber of Commerce.
Various civic groups, business and the town combined to raise $13,500 to install a new clock with glass faces and LED lights.
A team from the Electric Time Co. of Medfield, Mass and Lynches River Electric Co-Operative installed the new clocks on July 12.
The clock was originally made by the Fancy Clock Co. The Pageland Garden Club purchased the clock for about $17,000. It was dedicated in January of 2008 as part of Pageland’s Centennial Celebration.
While Electric Time Co. makes a variety of large clocks, replacing Fancy Clock’s work has become one of their specialties.
Ed Eachys, who installed Pageland’s new clock, said he has replaced 30 Fancy Clocks that failed.
While the clock now has the correct time, more work remains to be done.
The clock’s pedestal needs repainting. New landscaping it also planned.
When this work is complete a re-dedication ceremony will be held.
