Heath Springs is more —
More than a driving route to get to Kershaw, Camden or Columbia.
More than a few restaurants that have won awards for serving the best pizzas and sub sandwiches.
More than an elementary school that continues to win awards for excellence.
More than the historic Southern Railroad Train Depot that centers the town.
Heath Springs is a municipality that actively demonstrates care and concern.
“Our main job as leaders is to pay attention to the needs of the community, invest in the community and structure public services to meet those needs,” says Heath Springs Mayor Eddie L. Moore.
In an attempt to provide some relief from the current national inflation struggle — rising interest rates, soaring gas and food prices, the leadership in Heath Springs rolled up its sleeves and sought to find available resources that would slow the bleeding of this economic hemorrhage.
The creation of the first Heath Springs Mini Mall was planned.
On June 11, the Kingdom Citizens Outreach Ministry (KCOM) from Waxhaw, N.C., partnered with the town of Heath Springs and provided four free truckloads of brand new clothing, shoes, household products, groceries, cleaning products, toiletries and a hot meal.
Money was no good on that day. Everything was totally free! There was no registration, no required identification and no quantity limits.
Our mission is to “help those in need,” say Kingdom Citizen Outreach coordinators Wayne and Deborah Marsh. This event was well advertised and participants from the tri-county area came out in 98-degree weather.
In addition to feeding and providing for the body, the soul was not left out. An encouraging sermon, prayer and music opened the Heath Springs Mini Mall in the parking lot of the Anne S. Taylor Municipal Building. This extremely successful event began at 11 a.m. and ended at 2:30 p.m.
According to the number of hot meal boxes given out, over 520 participants were served. The leadership of Heath Springs will continue to seek out ways to make a difference within the community.
