Abortion. The word alone will silence a room.
It used to make me shudder, writhe with guilt, turn immediately to something to make me feel better to try and forget what the word means to me. The word abortion to me means the loss of two children, who I know are now safe in Heaven with Jesus.
But they should have been safe here on Earth with me. I should have made a different choice. I should have chosen life. I didn’t because I was blinded, and I did what was best for me.
Now that my eyes have been opened to the truth of what God’s Word says, that He is the giver of life, I know what I did was completely wrong.
But in my shame and guilt and sorrow is where Jesus has worked the most. For in His goodness, He offers me grace, mercy, forgiveness and love like I’ve never known before, and my sin of abortion has been wiped away. Forgotten. Cast as far as the East is to the West.
I am free and I want to help other women be free from this bondage to guilt, too. But it’s only Jesus who saves.
The stigmatization put on abortion in our society is crippling to the advancement of the gospel and is acting as an agent of division. We must see this for what it is and stop it! As believers, we have the same power that raised Jesus from the cross, and we can do all things through him who strengthens us.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are over 3,000 abortions performed in the United States every day, and 22% of all pregnancies in the USA end in abortion.
So many children are being killed for reasons unknown to anyone, really. So all this finger-pointing (on both sides) and grandstanding is a waste of time, in my opinion. Time that could be spent designing and developing orphanages and programs to help mothers and children, or children who cannot be cared for by their mothers, for whatever reason.
Basically, I don’t think it is our job to judge the motive behind any individual’s reasons for their actions. It is our job to hold our governing bodies accountable for doing the right thing, upholding, enacting, making and enforcing laws and regulations in the best interest of the American people.
The biggest issue we are facing with the overturning of Roe v. Wade is waiting to see what the church is going to do. Are we going to do what the Word tells us, not just jump on a political side and yell what we think?
As your neighbor, friend and someone who cares about Lancaster, please let’s show the world what the love of Jesus looks like by doing what He says: “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.”
