The Chester County Sheriff’s Office and the Chester Police Department increased their presence at the Academy of Teaching and Learning (ATL) following intelligence they received from a private social media account of a possible threat to commit a crime at the school.
Law enforcement received the information shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday July 26, according to the CCSO.
Deputies identified the owner of the account where the threat originated to be a juvenile and working with ATL administrators, they responded to the juvenile’s residence where the investigation was continued.
Due to the seriousness of the threat made, the ATL Administration suspended the student.
Since the student was a juvenile, the S.C. Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) was involved and will continue the judicial process with the accused.
The CCSO and Chester PD are showing an increased presence at the ATL, as long as necessary and as a precautionary measure, to ensure the safety and security of the students and staff.
The Sheriff’s Office asks for everyone’s continued assistance in monitoring social media accounts and notifying law enforcement of messages that could indicate threats of violence to Chester County schools.
