McCONNELLS — Mr. Coley Blease Gibson Jr., 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at White Oak Manor — Rock Hill.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at the Lowrys Community Center, 2266 Old York Road, Chester with Rev. Mike Shaffer officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Gibson was the son of the late Coley Blease Gibson Sr. and the late Roseolean Simpson Gibson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Sue Plyler Gibson; his sister, Joann Haire; his brother-in-law, John Haire; his twin infant sisters; and his half-brother, Tally Wells.
Of the Baptist faith, he attended Lowrys Baptist Church, where he served as deacon for many years. As a member of the North Chester Saddle Club, he enjoyed trail riding in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the annual Lowrys Christmas Parade. He loved bluegrass music and traveled often during retirement to attend bluegrass festivals. An electrician by trade, he wired many industries and businesses in SC/NC. He was the head electrician at Carowinds during its construction and managed the electrification of the entire park and all rides. He remained at Carowinds for many years and later became an adjunct instructor at York Tech, teaching a new generation of men and women the electrical trade.
In his later years, he focused on a rental business that he and his wife, Sue, had grown together for 40 years.
Surviving are his sons, William Coley Gibson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and David Mark Gibson (Bessie) of Tallahassee, FL; his daughter, Linda Gibson Jenkins (Gene) of McConnells, SC; five grandsons, Richard, Will and Collin Jenkins, David Gibson and Hunter Ramsey; and three great-grandchildren, Carson, Charlie Ann and Cooper Jenkins.
